Rev. Evangeline Rand, Pastor

Pastor Vangie is a provisional elder in the United Methodist Church. She grew up in a logging family in Forks, WA. She has a B.A. from the Evergreen State College in Olympia and a Master of Divinity from The Seattle School of Theology and Psychology.
She’s served at Haller Lake UMC in Seattle; Oroville UMC and Tonasket Community Church in North Okanogan county; Centralia UMC and Rochester UMC.
Before life as a United Methodist, she served in campus ministry at Evergreen; taught English as a foreign language at a high school in Budapest, Hungary; spent a summer teaching English in Mexico City at a church; and worked in filing at Western IRB in Olympia.
She spent a decade as a barista in Seattle, including at Pike Place Market. She loves exploring art, culture, and alternative music. She is the human for a cranky old orange tabby named Rocky.
Pastor Vangie loves the holistic practices and perspectives of following Jesus that the Methodist movement offers. Grace is all around us, and we can consent to the Spirit forming us into stronger conduits of God’s love through “Means of Grace” engaging mind and heart, hands and feet.
She works toward cultivating Brave Spaces for people to be authentic in deconstructing narrow and harmful narratives. She emphasizes choosing curiosity over assumption. She believes making or experiencing various forms of art can be Holy. She believes God’s very nature celebrates Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging.

Robyn Honeysett, Chairperson of Missions and Community Engagement
Robyn did not grow up in the church but had the opportunity to attend Vacation Bible School as a child then attend Seattle Pacific University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition and committed her life to the Lord. She has attended Sumner UMC since the early 1990’s and feels very at home amongst her fellow parishioners.
Robyn is looking forward to connecting resources in the church, our community and world, creating a partnership to help make life better for those whose paths we have the privilege of crossing. Robyn hopes to see Sumner UMC be a resource of support for our community and beyond.
Susan Adams, Chairperson of Church Council
Susan is a lifelong United Methodist! She has been part of small and large congregations in California and Texas, including a reconciling congregation, before arriving in the Pacific Northwest. Susan is a Mom of two college students, serves on the church Tech team and Staff Parish Relations Committee. When she has free time, Susan enjoys traveling, reading, gardening, and watching sports.
Suzanne Dinwiddie, Lay Servant & Lay Leader
Suzanne has been a United Methodist as long as there have been United Methodists, first coming to the church at the time of the union between the Methodist Church and the Evangelical United Brethren. She believes deeply in our Wesleyan theology and in the value of being part of a larger connectional church. Over the years, she has been active in congregations in California, Washington, Kentucky, and again in Washington, participating in Bible studies and other small groups, as well as serving in many administrative and technical roles. She has also served in camping ministry and district training opportunities.
Suzanne’s deep desire is for Sumner United Methodist Church to be a truly welcoming place for people of all generations, backgrounds, needs and interests. She hopes we can provide ways to connect with one another in doing life together, to grow in knowledge and spiritual formation, and to serve the needs of our local community as well as our state, nation and world.
Suzanne and her husband Sid have been married for 46 years and have one adult daughter who teaches orchestra in the Puyallup School District. In retirement, Sid works part time as an industry consultant. They have also cared for multiple pet hedgehogs for the past 25 years, particularly rescues and those with medical issues, currently sharing their home with three special rescues.
